Clearly it is pretty important that we know what equipment you
have sent to us, what project it is for, where it is at any point
in time, and what may have been done to it. This is achieved through
SLIMS®, our bespoke inventory management software
that allows us to track each component from receipt at goods-in,
through to installation at the end-user site.
At any point from goods-in, we can identify not only where an asset
is, but also what has been done to it.
SLIMS® builds parent/child relationships between for example,
a PC workstation and hardware and software elements that may be
added to it during the configuration and customisation processes.
This relationship allows for full version control, allowing us to
instantly recognise if the software build version changes for example.
This model of parent/child relationships is fully scaleable; so
not only do we build a PC as a parent, but we would also build a
complete retail store as a parent, with controllers and tills as
children, each with its own children, representing hardware and
software modifications.
SLIMS® tracks products from goods-in, through our configuration
facility, back to despatch, out to the Engineers (whose vans are
seen by SLIMS® as mobile store locations) and to their final
destinations at the end-user site.
We track by serial number, but have retained the flexibility to
track for example by Dell® tag number as well as the serial
number, to include the maintainers reference number, and to asset
tag equipment, and to record this information within SLIMS®.
SLIMS® has become very sophisticated over the years, evolving
to meet and exceed the growing requirements of our clients. We employ
a full-time, in-house development team to make sure that the system
helps us to stay ahead of the competition.
