SMR manages its own fleet of vehicles to move product either
between depots, or to the end-user site. These include 7.5 tonne
trucks, Transit vans (normal and long wheel-based) and car-derived
vans. Where necessary we have access to articulated transport at
preferential rates. We employ HGV drivers, so even where we are
utilising 17 tonne or articulated vehicles, they would normally
be driven by a SMR employee.
It is SMR policy that when we are installing at an end-user
site, the field Engineer responsible for the installation will normally
take all the equipment to site in SMR owned transport. This
avoids the potential problems associated with a third party courier.
In particular, we remain responsible for the product through to
installation and sign-off, as well as ensuring that equipment is
delivered exactly when it is required. The SMR Engineer
will also remove packaging and any specified legacy equipment from
site. The exception to this would be for example, where we are installing
several hundred PCs across multiple floors in a large office block
and in this case we would normally deliver the equipment and remove
legacy, using larger transport.
As part of our logistics operation, we offer an IT relocation service,
where for example, the end-user is moving a large office to a new
'green field' site.
SMR also offers product packaging services, for example
if we have collated various equipment for a specific site install,
all the equipment for that site will be packed together ready for
picking and delivery to site.
Finally within logistics support, we offer proof of delivery reporting
for every site visited.
