Many companies will offer you some level of configuration, but
will balk at the idea of offering true customisation services.
Again, we believe that our skills and experience in this arena will
allow us to help you differentiate yourself in the market place.
We see customisation as being when an individual piece of
hardware, having been configured (Eg. More memory, additional hard
drives, generic software load etc), is then modified in some way
to either site or user level.
We have experience of customisation within the desktop, server,
EPoS, kiosk and ATM markets. We regularly deliver projects where
all the components for a large retail store are collated together,
hardware built, receive a generic software load, and then, one or
two days before installation, we will customise this equipment to
actually become the store in question at close of business
that day. This means that we do as much work as possible in the
hanger, greatly reducing the impact on the end-user when we go to
site for the installation.
In another example, we have recently delivered some 15,000 desktop
PCs into a leading UK bank. Each PC received a generic image load,
and was then built specific to the individual user for whom
it was intended, live from the Bank's WAN, in our hanger. Again,
this meant that the disruption to the end-user on the day of install
was absolutely minimal (- to cover in the case of DOAs, our Engineers
carried generically built PCs that they could build live on site).
Customisation is employed for three main reasons: It enhances the
user experience; it drives down costs, as generally work in the
configuration centre is less costly than work on site, and it reduces
risk, as work in the configuration centre is generally more process
driven and repeatable than that carried out on site.
